Computers on burglars’ list?

Home computers could become as popular with burglars as videos and microwave ovens as they become more common household items. Between 50 and 60 videos and about 40 microwave ovens are stolen in house burglaries in Christchurch each month.

A few computer thefts have been reported, although the numbers were not high because fewer people had computers, said a police spokesman yesterday. Burglars escaped with about $3OOO of home computer' equipment from a

house in Jacksons Road, Fendalton, on Wednesday night. A computer, monitor, printer, and two disc drives were taken.

Three premises in Ferry Road were also burgled on Wednesday night. Burglars attempted to drill open a safe at J. Lamb, Trotter and Son, Ltd, funeral directors, but were unsuccessful. Entry was gained by forcing the front door. About $9O cash was taken from Portstone Pet World. It was not known how the burglars entered the store. A burglary was also reported at a doctor’s surgery in Ferry Road. fl
