Pruner top invention
PA Wellington A gas-powered portable pruning tool with a big range of uses round the home and on the farm has won the U.D.C. Inventor’s Award.
Mr Alphonsus Veldman, of Palmerston North, was
presented with first prize of $5OOO by the U.D.C. chairman, Mr Peter Gilbert, at a function in Wellington. The pruner is hand-held and connected to a gas cylinder which drives an “in-line” combustion engine worked by a trigger.
Mr Veldman said the pruner could achieve 100,000 shots from one litre of butane. Its portability made it ideal for tagging, cutting, de-horning, and even firing fishing or rescue lines. He said the idea stemmed from a day spent helping a friend prune a forest.
