M.E.D. finances
Sir,—Details given by the City Treasurer have shown that the M.E.D. is making millions each year on the present tariff and will add to this by the imposition of a “supply charge” which is not needed but merely applied to make greater profits. The endeavours by a group of hard-working people to persuade the Minister of Energy to grant a reduction in bulk power charges to the South Island have been sabotaged by our M.E.D. making fantastic profits and not passing the profit on to the con-
sumer. It is very surprising to me that the Labour councillors have not fought for a lower tariff, and accepted the accounts presented to them by officials whose only object seems to be making a huge profit and forgetting the poor consumer.—Yours, etc., J. G. POWER. August 9, 1985.
