End nigh but goals roll in
The goals continue to roll in as the Rothmans Soccer League approaches its climax for 1985 — a further 27 were scored in yesterday’s twentieth round of matches. Three teams managed to score five times, Christchurch Brother United, National Mutual Miramar — both of whom probably did enough to get themselves above the relegation zone — and Masport Mount Wellington. The Miramar mid-fielder, Alec Hutcheon, scored three goals as Southmall Manurewa sunk into big trouble at the Basin
Reserve. It has now conceded 18 goals in its last four matches. Two players, Fred de Jong (Mount Wellington) and Greg Brown (Napier City Rovers) gathered two goals each. The only match which failed to produce goals was between Hanimex-North Shore and NZ Permanent Gisborne. While North Shore was getting a point, DB Wellington was taking three in its victory over Landbase Papatoetoe, to join North Shore at the top of the table. Bruce McLoughlin scored the winning goal for Well-
ington in injury time. Paul Wilkinson, the Papatoetoe defender, was sent off in the first half- for an off-the-ball incident. Results:
National Mutual Miramar 5 (Alec Hutcheon 3 including penalty, David Chote, Costa Leonidas penalty), Southmall Manurewa 1 (Mark Armstrong). Half-time 3-1. Christchurch Brother United 5 (Gary Lund 3, John Hanson, Keith Braithwaite penalty), University Cowan 0. Half-time 1-0.
Napier City Rovers 4 (Greg Brown 2, Dean Irvine, Phil Jackson penalty), McKee Nelson United 1 (Darren Cunningham). Half-time 2-1. Masport Mount Wellington 5 (Fred de Jong 2, Dave Wit-
teveen, Grant Lightbown, Bill de Graaf), 4XO Dunedin City 1 (Paul Posa). Half-time 2-0. Hanimex-North Shore 0, NZ Permanent Gisborne 0. Landbase Papatoetoe 2 (Mark Slane, Bill McClure penalty), DB Wellington 3 (Jeff Strom penalty, Bill Harris, Bruce McLoughlin). Half-time 1-1. ROTHMANS LEAGUE
