Oldest resident dies
PA Dunedin Dunedin’s oldest resident, Mrs Ethel Geddes, aged 106, has died.
Her nephew, Mr Norman Davie, said she died in her sleep about 5 a.m. on Friday
at Fulton Rest Home, where
she had lived for the last 14 years. Mrs Geddes (nee Davie) was born in Roslyn on April 17, 1879, and lived in Dunedin until she married Mr A. J. Geddes in 1902 and moved to Invercargill.
Mr Geddes was president of both the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Southland Rugby Union. Mrs Geddes returned to Dunedin when her husband died in 1942. Mrs Geddes is survived by her two children, Mr Bert Geddes, of Invercargill, a former New Zealand and Southland rugby representative, and her daughter, Mrs Zillah McStay, of Christchurch.
