Sponsorship change for fencing titles

PA Marton

The National Heart Foundation has taken over from Rothmans the sponsorship of the national fencing championships in Dunedin at Labour Day week-end.

Mr A. E. Laity, the chairman of the foundation’s promotion and publicity committee, said the good physical exercise involved in fencing attracted the interest of the foundation.

“Encouragement of the right kinds of physical exercise is an important aspect of our health education commitment in the continuing fight against heart disease,” he said.

. “We see fencing as a growth sport in New Zealand and are pleased to support it. Today there are clubs in all main centres. More and more schools are adding fencing to their sporting activities and there is increasing competition in metropolitan and provincial, as well as national championships.”
