The appointee will participate in a wide range of soil conservation activities including promotion and implementation of soil conservation projects at farm and whole catchment levels, horticultural erosion control, and supervision of mining and forestry activities within the board’s district. This position requires initiative, innovation and the ability to use professional judgment over a wide range of matters. OPPORTUNITIES IN COMMUNITY RECREATION REORGANISATION WITHIN THE community development division of council has created these additional positions for which we seek written applications. LEISURE CENTRE CO-ORDINATOR MANUREWA This position, reporting to the Leisure Centres Manager, will initially be based at the Manurewa Leisure Centre which comprises the recreation centre and the indoor and outdoor pool complex in Manurewa. The appointee will be required to establish the centre as the focal point for recreational resources in the area, initiate both structured and unstructured programmes and organisation of club leadership training and courses in coaching and umpiring. Applicants will be expected to possess management and organisational skills in addition to having a broad appreciation of recreational activities and opportunities. A background in physical education would be an advantage. Other key areas of influence will include staff supervision and responsibility for all equipment, plant and materials at the centre. The salary will be in the range $19,308—520,269. RECREATION PROGRAMME SUPERVISOR, MANGERE The Mangere Leisure Centre includes the Recreation Centre and the “Fun Pool” complex. The supervisor will be responsible to the leisure centre co-ordinator and assist in maintaining the management, operation and control of the recreation centre, including the supervision of staff and volunteers. The appointee will also be required to initiate and organise recreational activities, promote youth programmes, take bookings and collect charges. Applicants should possess organisational ability and be familiar with a broad range of recreational activities and opportunities. A physical education background would be an advantage. The salary is within the $17,107—517,720. SWIMMING POOL SUPERVISORS OTARA AND MANGERE The appointees will be responsible to the leisure centre manager for the management, operation and supervision of the Norman Kirk Memorial Pool in Otara and the “Fun Pool” complex in Mangere. Whilst not considered essential, a desirable qualification would be the Ministry of Works Swimming Pool Water Treatment Certificate. Additionally applicants qualified in life saving would find this an advantage. The salary will be to a maximum of $18,455 with significant allowances being paid for working a rostered shift.
