THE ENVIRONMENT Production in this heavy industry is controlled by a network of 100 process control computers which: — Take process measurements. — Physically control and co-ordinate the process sequences. — Signal abnormal conditions. — Provide on-line operating data and statistics. THE TOOLS Modern software tools are being installed to allow easy changing of process control strategies. There is a computer information system to assist in assessment of success of these strategies. THE PERSON The position would suit a person with qualifications in engineering, science or computer studies who enjoys working in a computer environment. The ability to communicate with users in a consultant’s role and to work with engineers in team situations would be an asset. For this reason some industrial experience would be preferred, but recently qualified people or those about to complete their qualifications should still apply.
