‘Disturbing’ book now a movie
A book, by Sigrid Undset, which caused a sensation when published in 1911, forms the basis for this evening’s foreign movie of the same name, “Jenny.” The public were disturbed to find a woman writing a description of women’s erotic feelings. Even today the book has still been described as “unsettling.” The movie, set in Italy and Denmark in 1980, stars Liv Ullmann in the title role. It is the story of a young Norwegian woman who breaks out of a safe, but restricted way of life to develop her talent as an artist. Part one screens on two this evening, with part two next week. The film has English subtitles.
