Shag Point oil search

BP Shell Todd (Canterbury) Services, Ltd, announced yesterday that it has reached agreement with the Zapata Off-shore Company for the hire of the Zapata Arctic semisubmersible drilling unit. The rig left Singapore last Saturday and should arrive on the Galleon prospect in PPL38203 about September 5. It should spud the Galleon-1 exploration well about two days after. The well will be drilled in 93m of water about 24km from Shag Point, south of Oamaru, and will reach a depth of approximately 3400 m. The marine support base will be Timaru.

The Galleon-1 well should be completed about the end of October.

The Zapata Arctic will then move to PPL38206 to drill Solander-1, to the west of Foveaux Strait for the same group of companies.
