Crane repair work
Repair work on the Lyttelton container crane is proceeding quickly. A report by the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s chief engineer, Mr J. B. Bushell, to the works committee meeting on Wednesday said that repairs were being done to crane components in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Lyttelton. Trial assemblies of the crane's legs and beams had been done in Dunedin. Trolley girders and other components were 95 per cent complete, in readiness for two further trial assemblies. In Lyttelton, bogies were being assembled on the crane site. Boom replacements were 75 per cent complete, and refitting of rails had begun. Repairs to access ways had been completed in Christchurch, and new components being built in the city were about 70 per cent complete. ARRIVALS Full Moon (6.15 a.m.), 11,757, Wellington (P and 0).
