Korean trawler seized again

PA Wellington The Korean trawler Tae Chang 83 has been seized for a second time, and the master charged with three counts of misreporting position and catch.

The Ministry of Fisheries chief fishery officer, Mr Stan Crothers, said yesterday that the vessel was ordered into Wellington on Friday, and arrived on Tuesday morning, where it was seized and investigated. The informations were laid in the District Court at Wellington yesterday. The Tae Chang 83 was arrested and confiscated latgMast year and had its

licence removed. The master and chief officer were convicted of 38 charges of false reporting and recording of catches.

The boat was put up for tender, but as a result of outstanding overseas debts, was eventually sold back to its owner. In May, it was granted a licence until September 30 to fish the exclusive economic zone, with the same master but a different crew.

Mr Crothers said the vessel would remain in the custody of the Crown unless the solicitors acting for the owners requested it to be released on bond.
