Display of watches
K display of gold watches valued at more than $1 million will be in Christchurch this month. Omega watches costing as much as $68,000 each will be at R. W. J. Harrington and Company, Ltd, in Riccarton from August 22 to 24. Up to 50 watches will be displayed for sale, the cheapest in the collection costing $2lOO. Some of the watches would appeal to the average New Zealander, said the sales and services manager of Malcolm Bishop, Ltd (importing agent for Omega), Mr Thomas Lusher.
“However, the odd model is definitely for the likes of oil Sheikhs or those with a similar bank account,” he said. The watches are expensive because of their high gold and diamond content and their unique styling. Nelson, Ashburton, and Dunedin are among other centres which will also hold the display. The watches will not be held in the Riccarton store overnight while they are in Christchurch. A security firm has been employed to hold them.
