Wool prices slip

PA Wellington Fleece prices eased 5 per cent at the combined Auckland, Wanganui, and Napier wool sale at the start of the new season in Wellington yesterday. Comnared with prices at the last sale of the previous season, on June 27, prices for second-shear 31 to 35 micron fell 5 per cent. The market opened under restricted competition but once base levels were established bidding became widespread. ' The main buyers were from Eastern Europe and New Zealand mills, with solid support from the Wool Board. The offering of 27,245 bales, including 2416 of Wool Board stock, was 8 per cent fleece, 50 per cent second-shear, 16 per cent crutchings, 19 per cent second-shear oddments, 3

per cent lambs, and 4 per cent miscellaneous. Prices.— Fine crossbred hogget, 32 micron, 105/115mm: Good to 511. Medium crossbred hogget, 34 micron, 110/125mm: Good to 518. Crossbred fleece, 35 micron, 110/125mm: Good to 529. Average to good to 482. Average to 480. Crossbred, 37 micron, 110/ 125 mm: Good 505 to 510. Average to good 485 to 495. Average 475 to 483.

Second-shear fleece, 37 micron, 75/100mm to 75/125mm: Good 483 to 496. Average to good 470 to 480. Average 460 to 465. 50/75mm to 50/100mm: Good 463 to 477. Average to good 458 to 462.
