Versatile Vinaman to improve his record
Special correspondent Matamata No worse, it seems for his heavy racing programme. Vinaman promises to add further to his stakes tally in the Matamata Racing Club’s Chronicle Handicap’ today.
Vinaman will have his eleventh race in as many weeks when he runs today and his form is such that he will probably be the favourite, even though top weight with 57kg. Mixing his racing, over hurdles and on the flat, Vinaman has managed four wins since June 1 and from his other six attempts he weighed in four times for a third placing and a fifth.
Each of his four wins were over jumps and he ran his minor placings in middle-distances, at Pukekohe (twice), Rotorua and Te Rapa.
As well as having an iron constitution, Vinaman has retained plenty of pace. It is a good bet he will again take a hand in the pacemaking tomorrow.
Few which will oppose Vinaman claim much in the way of recent form. Mark of Honour is one which has been going moderately well and a better track than she met with in her latest races might bring an improvement in Mrs Roper.
Mark of Honour was an intermediate winner two starts back over 2100 m at Ellerslie and he finished third, meanwhile, in a 2000 m at Avondale on Julv 30.
If Avon’s Lord is going to fulfil expectations he should win or certainly go close in the second leg of the Matamata T.A.B. double, the Machinery Equipment Handicap. Avon’s Lord beat all except Petersburg two starts back, in the Ryder Stakes at Levin. Quite ' possibly the very heavy track had something to do with his not going as well as expected meanwhile, at Te Rapa. Matamata. his home track, could give him a better opportunity.
