Walk-out at play
Sir,—The One Act Play Festival organised by the New Zealand Theatre Federation is often notable as a platform for amateur groups to present innovative, exciting drama. Standards have always fluctuated, but it is often the highlight of the theatre calendar for participants and spectators who become involved. A walk-out because of a play’s content is hard to understand. The Riccarton Players’ presentation of “Christie in Love” is powerful and clever. The day that festival entries revert to trite, hammy productions will be a sad day indeed for the many of us who face the fact that life is not all sweetness and fluff and who admire dramatic presentations of emotional impact, albeit not necessarily pleasant.— Yours, etc., H. GILES. Rangiora, August 6, 1985.
