No exports of organic kiwifruit
PA Tauranga No organically grown kiwifruit are likely to be exported this year because the fruit does not yet meet the industry’s export standards, says the managing director of the Kiwifruit Authority, Dr Don Brash. Dr Brash said from Auckland that organically grown export fruit would have amounted to fewer than 50,000 trays. This compared with the total export crop of about 23.5 million trays. One grower, Mr David Sayers, of Katikati, said that the growers concerned had decided to withdraw the fruit from export because an insect pest had been detected throughout the organic crop.
