MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS FORESTRY PROJECT - PAPUA NEW GUINEA FOREST FIRE PROTECTION AND CONTROL ADVISER APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for the position of forest fire Protection and Control Adviser with the Department of Forests in Papaua New Guinea. The position will be funded under New Zealand’s development co-operation programme and will be for a period of up to two years based at Bulolo. THE TERMS OF REFERENCE ARE: Generally to assist in the establishment of a forest fire prevention and control system in Papua New Guinea. SPECIFICALLY TO: (a) assist in reviewing and w’here necessary revising policy and legislation; (b) assist in preparation of standing instructions, procedures and guidelines for fire prevention and control; 9c) assist with the development of fire control plans, especially for major forest assets: (d) establish a model forest fire control facility at Bulolo forest: (e) train staff in the planning and operational requirements of disciplined forest fire control and in the use and maintenance of equipment; (f) provide assistance as required, in the review and revision of fire protection course material at the school of forestry and in student instruction; (g) assist in the development of a fire danger rating system. Applicants must have proven experience commensurate with the responsibilities outlined above. Terms and conditions of appointment including salary will be subject to negotiations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
