The position, Head of Cataloguing Section, offers the opportunity to further develop automated cataloguing and related systems, and to undertake research in bibliographic and subject control techniques. It offers a wide range of responsibilities, and unique opportunities for professional and personal development. The position involves liaising with D.S.I.R. librarians, other colleagues in the profession, particularly the National Library, and E.D.P. personnel, etc. The Head of Cataloguing Section is responsible for the administration and management of automated cataloguing, classification and indexing services for the D.S.I.R. Library Centre, and the D.S.I.R. library network of some 20 divisional libraries. Training library staff in both the Centre and our Network will involve organisational and communication skills. The successful applicant should have a Diploma of Librarianship or equivalent, considerable management experience, and a sound knowledge of cataloguing, indexing and classification. Some experience of library automation is desirable. This is a senior management position in the D.S.I.R. Library Centre and starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
