Shipping news Rise in terminal's cost
The estimated cost of exmn??n6 ar) d improving the Wellington rail ferry terminal has reached almost $1 million more than $300,000 up on the original estimate three months ago. The estimates come from the Railways Corporation, which first proposed the terminal improvements. The work has since been taken over by the Wellington Harbour Board Higher-quality work required by board members and an overly light original estimate appear to be the reasons behind the rise in estimated cost. The board has lodged an application with the New Zealand Ports Authority for approval to spend the extra $300,000. The authority must approve any capital expenditure in the port over $500,000. Discussions between the board, consultants, and likely tenderers are continuing in an effort to have the work completed before the Christmas holiday rush.
