Squeeze, don’t rub

Wash knitted garments before they are really dirty so they do' not require rubbing — rubbing felts the wool. Avoid very hot and very cold water which will shrink wool. Move the garment in the warm, soapy water and squeeze it. A little ammonia in the water will counteract the smell of perspiration in woollen garments, but only use it if you are sure the

dye is fast. Never wring knitted garment, just squeeze them or put them through a slack wringer. Dry quickly and keep flat — if you hang a woollen garment it will drop out of shape. Wet garments often look dejected with no shape at all. When you lay them out pat them back into shape while wet.
