Coaching theory on Fiji problem
NZPA-AAP Brisbane The assistance the New Zealand coach, Mr George Simpkin, is giving the Fiji rugby team may be the unwitting cause of criticism plaguing it on its tour of Australia. Allegations of kicking players on the ground and head-high tackles have flared after each of the fiery Fijian’s three tour matches so far. The coach, Mr Inoke Tabualevu, said: "We have former Waikato coach, George Simpkin, assisting our forwards, and I think this has made
everyone extra critical of our rucking.” After Queensland trounced Fiji 47-6 on Sunday, the Australian coach, Mr Allan Jones, and the Queensland coach, Mr Bob Templeton, were both incensed at what they said was illegal rough play by Fiji. Mr Templeton, who has just been appointed for his twentysecond term as state coach, said: “Our players face enough physical injury without illegal kicking.”
