Malibu board marathon
Two men with places to go are Chris Porter, of Australia, and Chris Hall, of Christchurch. The pair will be competing in a malibu board marathon off the Californian coast. Porter, the world malibu board champion, has been in New Zealand for the last few months helping to coordinate and promote sales of the boards, manufactured by a Christchurch company. Summer Breeze Enterprises make the malibu board, which is longer and more voluminous than the ordinary surfboard, and users kneel on it for racing. The boards normally retail for between $650 and $750. Hall and Porter will be carrying two each to Los Angeles. Porter says the locally made boards are well
manufactured and he has fully endorsed them for sale to lifesaving clubs in New Zealand. Hall, a malibu board enthusiast who works for Sum-
mer Breeze Enterprises, will join Porter in testing the boards in a 32 nautical mile marathon race off the Californian coast. Prize money of $15,000 is at stake.
