Store cattle, ewes with lambs, sell well

Store cattle and ewes with lambs at foot sold strongly at the Addington market yesterday but most types of prime stock had only a quiet sale. A slight drop in the price of prime lambs and a lack of urgency in the prime beef market resulted from limited competition among buyers. However, prime pigs were in keen demand. Prime lambs Limited competition from buyers contributed to a hesitant sale for prime lambs, except in the latter stages when the buying power increased. Overfat lambs and those in light condition were about $1 a head cheaper than last week’s valaes. Good cutting butchers’ lambs were in steady demand and prices fully firm. Top butchers lambs exceeded $3l, and spring lambs sold to $25.40. The yarding was 1159 compared with 1350 last week. Values were:— Heavy , lambs, to $33.40. Medium lambs, $25 to $27.80. Most ewes in good order sold between $l7 and $24, depending on wool, and only light ewes realised less than $l3. A slightly bigger yarding than last week of hoggets sold well, top sheep fetching $3O. The increase in the yarding comprised mostly light to medium types which sold at $23 to. $25. The total sheep yarding was 842, compared with 520 last week. Values were:— Best old ewes, to $25.
