Medicines taken to school
Sir,—l object to the inference of J. Laws that parents are uneducated and a child ill-cared for by the parent who requests help from a teacher. Frequently children recover rapidly from initial effects of illness and are well enough to return to school before a course of drugs is ended. I suggest that a responsible parent, particularly of a primary school child, acts sensibly when seeking the assistance of a fellow adult in administering drug’s prescribed by the doctor
rather than allowing the child to carry the drugs at school chancing the loss, for another to find, or forgetting to take the drug, causing a break in the therapeutic course. If the public and parents need more education then let their teachers first learn that to help each other in the community is far more profitable than the negative approach, so that they may teach by example as well as theory.— Yours, etc.,
