Technical opens clubrooms
It was a day for reminiscing and seeing old familiar faces for members of the Technical soccer club yesterday when its new clubrooms at its Ensors Road grounds were officially opened. About 250 people, including former New Zealand representatives, turned out for the day. Technical last reached the semi-finals of the Chatham Cup in 1977. There were players from Technical’s seven appearances in the last four, or better, in the Cup, dating
back many years. Two matches were played at the club’s grounds. An under 13 team beat an under 12 Technical side, and a team drawn of players who played for the club before 1970 edged out a side of players from about 1970 until the present team, 2-1. Brian Boomer and Chris Jones, a former Rothmans League player and club president, now living in Nelson, scored for the winner, with Doug Chee getting the other goal.
