Skating squad named
PA Dunedin The New Zealand team to attend the world artistic skating championships in Italy next month has been named. The team was announced in Dunedin and includes three skaters in the world games in London. The dance couple, Steven Signal, and Michelle Pickles, and the freeskater, Lisa Hirst will stay on in Europe, and prepare for the world championships before being joined by the rest of the team in September. The two newcomers to the international scene are Richard McHenry (Dunedin) and Craig Beets (Gisborne).
The team is:— Dance couples: Michelle Pickles and Steven Signal (Papatoetoe), Celeste Hogan and Tony Alexandra (Papatoetoe). Women’s freeskating:—Lisa Hirst (Manawatu), Nicola Jones (Papatoetoe). Men’s freeskating:—Paul Murdoch (Papatoetoe), Richard McHenry (Dunedin). Women’s figure skating:— Leigh-Anne Whig (Napier), Patty Warren (Dunedin). Men’s figure skating:—Craig Beets (Gisborne). Coaches:—Georgie Smigel (Dunedin) and Avis Berry. Manager: Raewyn Bailes (Hastings).
