Jail for rape
PA Wellington ' A third-time convicted ' rapist was jailed yesterday ■ for eight years when sen- ' tenced by Mr Justice Ong- ■ ley in the High Court at • Wellington. Jon James Jones, aged 32, . a prison inmate, had been found guilty by a jury of rape and sodomy. He was jailed for eight . years for rape, and five for sodomy. His Honour said that Jones had two previous convictions for rape, which brought into focus whether he should be sentenced to an indefinite term (preventive detention) or whether a long term jail sentence would suffice. It had been one of the most bestial sexual cases it had been his duty to preside at, his Honour said.
