Plays by S.I. authors

Five plays by South Island playwrights are being read and discussed by theatre professionals at the Fortune Theatre in Dunedin this week-end. The week-end has been organised by Playmarket, a Wellington-based scriptreading service and New Zealand playwrights’ agency. It was designed to make the skills of theatre professionals available to South Island writers, said the agency’s director, Miss Nonnita Rees.

A general discussion on writing for the theatre would also be held as part of the final session, Miss Rees said.

The five plays are “The Parrot Cage,” by John Leask, Timaru; “Is My Choice a True One,” by Kitty Harvie, Dunedin; “Julie,” by Leah Poulter, Dunedin; “Passport,” by Eve Hughes, Christchurch; and “The Eye of the Savage God,” by Doreen Roberts, Christchurch. r
