Walsh to ride in Japan
PA Wellington Last season’s leading jockey, David Walsh, will represent New Zealand in the international riders’ events at this year’s Asian Racing Conference meeting in Tokyo in October. After riding at Tokyo from October 9-16 against riders representing the other 16 countries of the Asian conference, Walsh will be involved in another series of races at Kyoto
until October 22. Walsh was easily New Zealand’s top jockey in the 1984-85 season which finished on Wednesday, winning 138 races. Peter Johnson, the runner-up, rode 99 winners. The New Zealand rider at the Asian conference meeting is generally the country’s leading jockey for the season. Gary Phillips and Brtfee Compton have been past representatives.
