Craftswomen urged to get weaving
Craftswomen in the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers have been urged to turn their talents into award-winning ideas which will benefit the New Zealand wool industry. The W.D.F.F. dominion president, Mrs Elsie Mclnnes, said in Wellington that members should support a nation-wide search being held for people with innovative ideas about New Zealand wool. The search is being sponsored by the Hamiltonbased Woolrest Corporation, which has put up $40,000 to encourage anyone with a new idea for using wool to come forward. “We welcome this as a positive move to support the wool industry,” Mrs Mclnnes said. “Hundreds of our numbers are both woolgrowers
and highly skilled craftswomen who knit, sew, spin, weave and crochet their own designs. “I urge these women to expess confidence in their talents by entering their designs in the awards, which close on August 16. “A description and diagram of a new idea for using wool, or original design featuring wool, is as acceptable as a designermade garment,” she said. “Categories include products for babies and children, to arts and crafts, bedding, apparel, furnishings, and even novelty items.” Anyone wishing to enter the Woclrest Wool Design Awards should phone Hamilton 82-980 collect, for details, or write to Box 419, Hamilton.
