Two Christchurch companies are assisting with a programme of overseas student exchange by employing, on a medium-term basis, overseas university commerce graduates. Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating is employing Mr Klaus Olsen (above right), from Denmark, in market research, and Mr Klaus Pflume (left) from Germany, is specialising in auditing with the Christchurch office of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells. A trainee is expected soon from Korea, and in August a graduate will arrive from Denmark to work for PDL Industries. The exchange programme is promoted by A.I.E.S.E.C.
(International Association of Economics and Commerce Students), an international organisation run by students. The reciprocal nature of the programme guarantees that a New Zealander goes abroad each time a trainee is admitted to New Zealand. A.I.E.S.E.C. aims to close the gap between classroom theory and business management by providing practical experience in an international business environment. Each traineeship is tailored to the specific interests and requirements of the sponsoring company. In November, a national conference of A.I.E.S.E.C. members will take place at Lincoln College.
