Botham sees lawyer
NZPA-AP London The England cricket star, lan Botham, is taking legal advice over being asked to sign a random dope-testing agreement, his lawyer said. In line with other sporting groups, the Test and County Cricket Board, which governs English cricket, has issued a declaration which calls on players to agree to
random dope testing. Botham and his fellow Somerset stars, Viv Richards, and Joel Garner, are among players who have not yet agreed to sign. Testing is expected to start in two or three weeks. Any player found guilty by a disciplinary committee of taking banned drugs could face penalties ranging
from a reprimand or fine to a period of suspension when he would not be eligible to play for England. A statement by Botham’s lawyer, Mr Alan Herd, said all the player was concerned about was making sure he knew exactly what he was being asked to sign.
