Last minute win
PA Blenheim An excellent 45-metre penalty in the last minute of play by the wing, Kevin Columbus, carried Marlborough to a deserved 15-12 win over Wanganui in a second division championship rugby match at Blenheim yesterday. Marlborough’s forwards, after being thoroughly outplayed in the lineout's, finally paved the way for victory, with some spirited
driving play in the last 20 minutes. The home side's backs also proved the more adventurous unit, with the fullback, Peter Marfell, frequently excelling with his entrances to the line. Wanganui enjoyed a territorial advantage, especially in the first half, but its backs were disappointing. They failed to show much variety, and the first fiveeighth. Blair Sloan, kicked
too often. The score at half-time was 6-6, after the Wanganui winger, Lachlan Harding, and Columbus had both landed two penalties. Scorers.— Marlborough 15 (Peter Marfell, try; Kevin Columbus, three penalties and one conversion). Wanganui 12 (Lachlan Harding four penalties.)
