Women’s Decade conference

Sir,—Your editorial “One decade for women” in “The Press" on July 11, was discussed at the meeting of the Regional Women’s Decade Committee today, with special emphasis on the final sentence. We can assure you that the conditions under which the majority of women in the world have to live and work are of great concern to all of us. Apart from the present desperate situation in the drought areas of East Africa, there are many concerns that will be brought to the attention of the delegates. This United Nations conference represents far more women from under-developed countries than those of us who come from affluent countries and we hope that some positive action can be initiated to enable more equal sharing of the world resources. — Yours, etc B. STRINGLEMAN (Mrs). Deputy-chairwoman Regional Women’s Decade Committee. July 12, 1985.
