Marsden Pt defended
PA Auckland In spite of failing the Treasury’s test of economic viability, the Marsden Point refinery expansion found a defender yesterday in the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard. He conceded to a Ministerial meeting of the International Energy Agency in Paris that without the refinery New Zealand could expect several years of rela-
tively cheap oil product imports. “But we would be very exposed if yet another oil shock occurred.” Mr Tizard said that, even without such a shock, New Zealand would find' its oil products bill again becoming a heavy burden for a small export-dependent economy as crude production tapered off in some key producing countries.
