Five seek election

Five trade union officials have been nominated to contest an election to find a successor to Mr Wes Cameron, who has resigned as president of the Canterbury Trades Council to become a member of the Arbitration Court. They are the vice-presi-dent, Mr Dick Lowe (Labourers’ Union), Messrs Barry Brown (Labourers), Graham Harding (Hotel Workers), and Andy Lea (Woollen Workers) who are executive members, and Mr Lew Bums (Drivers’ Union). The election will be held at the council’s monthly meeting on July 25, and the winner will hold the post until the annual meeting in November. The secretary of the Trades Council, Mrs Hilary Brown, said that if one of the executive members were elected to president, an election would be held to fill the executive position.
