This position offers a technically absorbing job to the right person who will lead a small team in the maintenance and repair of all the department’s generating and associated equipment. The work covers a wide range from 20 megawatt turbines to governor systems, and associated plant. 2. RELIEF SHIFT OPERATOR APPLICATIONS ARE CALLED from electrical tradespeople to fill a vacancy in the department’s operating staff at Waipori Falls. The relief shift operator is trained to stand in for the other operating staff when they are changing shift, or on leave etc. In addition, the relief shift operator can be required to do other repair or maintenance duties throughout the complex. The starting rate would be $16,581, but actual earnings could well exceed this by 25 per cent. 3. ELECTRICAL FITTER/TECHNICIAN APPLICATIONS ARE CALLED from registered electricians, preferably with advanced trade qualifications, to fill this vacancy. This must be one of the most interesting trades positions in the council service. A significant amount of overtime is worked. The work covers a wide range from 20 megawatt generating plant to electronic equipment and system protection gear. Housing for these positions is provided at low rental in the department’s fully serviced village, in a beautiful rural setting, 60 km from Dunedin, an ideal environment to maximise savings.
