Chch artists to represent N.Z.

The New Zealand representatives in the Commonwealth Art Exhibition in London this year will be Tracy Wilson and David Partridge, both of Christchurch. Ms Wilson’s untitled oil and enamel painting won her the New Zealand section of the exhibition, run by the Royal Overseas League. The 85 paintings entered in the annual exhibition were judged on Monday evening by a local artist and teacher, Mr Trevor Moffit. The New Zealand exhibition is divided into an under 35 section and an open section. Part of Ms Wilson’s prize in the under 35 section is entry to the London exhibition.

Her work will be accompanied by that of Mr Partridge) called “Camp’s Last Light.” Mr Partridge was judged second in the under 35 section. Tina Middleton, also of Christchurch, was third. Margaret Rhodes, of Waipara, won the open section with “A Country Scene.” Entries in the open section are not eligible for the London exhibition. All the entries are on display at the Royal Overseas League rooms in Cashel Street until Friday. The Commonwealth exhibition in London will be held in September. Of the winning New Zealand entry, the judge said, “It is technically sound, and vibrant.”
