Hopes fade

NZPA-Reuter Dublin Hopes of recovering the flight recorder of an AirIndia Boeing 747 airliner that crashed into the Atlantic off Ireland appeared to be fading after recovery ships failed" to pick up its homing signal. A Royal Navy ship reported picking up a weak signal last Friday from the area where the jumbo jet went down with all 329 passengers and crew aboard, some 150 nautical miles off the Irish coast. A Canadian salvage vessel, John Cabot, carrying submersible equipment was reported to be heading for Ireland to help in the search.
