Peacock leads poll

NZPA-AAP Sydney The Australian Opposition Leader, Mr Andrew Peacock, is now more popular than the Prime Minister, Mr Bob Hawke, for the first time in a Morgan-Gallup poll. Mr Hawke has dropped to 47 per cent down 4 per cent, says the poll in “The Bulletin” magazine. Mr Peacock’s rating has

jumped 2 per cent to 48 per cent. But the poll shows that Mr Hawke was still favoured ahead of Mr Peacock as Prime Minister: 56 per cent plumped for Mr Hawke, compared with 31 per cent for Mr Peacock. The poll also shows that the coalition would have won an election held late last month.
