Police offer gets response
The $25,000 reward offered by the Christchurch police for information to convict the unknown killer of a Christchurch gang associate, Graeme David Innes, has drawn a quick response. A person had already been in touch with the police about the case, said Detective Inspector Jim Millar yesterday. Detectives are now working to determine whether the reply was genuine. Mr Millar said, however, that the offer still stood and that the police were keen to hear from anyone who could help their investigation into the shooting, which is now more than three months old. Mr Innes, who mixed with the Devil’s Henchmen gang, was shot dead in Ferry Road on the evening of March 31. He had gone to telephone for help for another gang associate who
was injured in a confrontation with the Highway 61 group. The police announced on Tuesday that the Minister of Police, Mrs Hercus, had approved the offer of the reward. It applies to anyone but the person who shot Mr Innes. Immunity from prosecution for any informant will also be considered. Mr Millar said yesterday that the police were particularly anxious to hear from the driver of a Car from which the fatal shot was fired at Mr Inlite. “We are not totally convinced that that pCj&Jp has been spoken to by the police,”, he said. The police would also fflte to know the whereabouts of the car and the shotgun used in the shooting. Three detectives are still working full-time on the case.
