Democratic Party to market new image

PA Auckland The New Zealand Democratic Party plans a marketing exercise to erase its 31 years of carrying the Social Credit name. Formalities to rename social Credit were finished at the week-end and the new name took legal effect from July 1. The party president, Mr Stefan Lipa, said the executive had proposals from

marketing, public relations, and advertising consultants on ways to present the party’s new name and policies. “It will be a big task, because the party has clearly called for a fresh new image, which takes quite a bit of putting together,” Mr Lipa said. A few members had resigned because of disap-

pointment over the name change, he said. Aeready $150,000 had been raised to pay the party leader, Mr Beetham, a “Parliamentary-level salary.” Further proposals for marketing and fund-raising were expected to be discussed at executive and council meetings later this month.
