PA Wellington A special group to review urban rail services has been announced by the Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble. The review team will be led by the Urban Transport Council’s chairman, Mr lan McCutcheon. The group, with members from the Ministry of Transport and the Railways Corporation, would examine the whole of New Zealand’s urban rail system, Mr Prebble said. “It will examine Railways’ current operating practices with a view to improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness, future investment potential, and options for improving funding and budgeting systems, and local accountability,” he said. The review team is expected to report back to the Government by the end of the year.
