Guitarist killed

Wayne Elsey, the vocalist and guitarist for the Dunedin group, The Doublehappys, was killed after falling from a passenger train near Taumarunui at about midnight last Wednesday. 1 Elsey, aged 22, fell from the train as it was crossing a railway bridge at Manunui, 2km south of Taumarunui. Sergeant Michael Keaney, of the Taumarunui police, was reported as saying that Elsey had apparently been hanging on to a hand rail and hanging out of a carriage doorway, when he was either hit by part of the bridge and fell, or just lost his grip and fell. The Doublehappys were meant to have played in Christchurch last week-end, at the official opening of the new rock venue at the Zetland Tavern.
