RUBY July stone of the month The name ruby comes from the Latin Rubeus meaning Red. The Ruby is actually Corundum. a crystallized oxide of aluminium. Traces of chromic-Oxide give the Ruby its brilliant colour. The worlds most dazzling Rubies come from A Mogok in northern Burma. A The Burmese believed that a Ruby sewn under the skin made a warrior invincible. Pedro the Cruel (by any criteria a cad), a 14th x century Spanish King was restored to power by a O British warrior, Edward the Black Prince. As a reward Edward was presented with a 2" long red gem-which to this day resides as the centrepiece in the British crown and is known as the Black Prince Ruby.
