Letters hidden A Toronto postman has been jailed for three months for hiding 25,000 letters at his home instead of delivering them. Ryan Richmond, aged 31, who was said to have emotional problems, was found with a bagful of undelivered mail by a neighbour who entered his home unexpectedly. Thousands of other letters were found in rubbish bags, under the bed and in a suitcase. None had been opened.—Toronto. Mercy-killer free Pin elderly British pensioner who admitted killing his wife with chloroform after she suffered a severe stroke walked free from a court yesterday. Vivian Masters, aged 75, of Instow, south-west England, denied murdering his wife but admitted manslaughter. He was sentenced to 125 days in prison and has already spent that time in custody. A lawyer representing Masters said that 18 months after his wife suffered the stroke, in 1983, leaving her partly paralysed, Masters determined to put her out of her suffering. After placing a chloroformsoaked pad inside a pillow and holding it over her face as she slept, Masters telephoned the family doctor, who found him crying at his wife’s bedside.—Exeter. No more charges No further charges would be laid against a Brisbane doctor and a Townsville doctor after raids on fertility control clinics in both cities on May 20, Queensland’s At-torney-General, Mr Neville Harper, said yesterday. He had been advised that a fair trial could not be ensured for any further charges, mainly because of publicity given to the raids.
