Driveworld on right track, says committee
The Driveworld area at Queen Elizabeth II Park will double its area with a new track if the Christchurch City Council heeds a recommendation from its parks and recreation committee. Driveworld Playground, Ltd, has applied to lease an extra ,34ha from the council for a figure-eight track for mini-bikes and a workshop area. Driveworld is the highest-
earning concession in the council’s leisure centre at the park. It already runs a loop track to the north of the proposed track. The council’s director of parks, Mr Neiel Drain, told councillors yesterday that the track would provide a much needed facility. The demand for it was already proved. An extended Driveworld would be a popular attraction, Mr Drain said.
Councillors supported the application, complimenting the concession-holder on his initiative. If the council endorses this view, construction of the track would begin in August and be completed in December. The company would have to meet the costs of relocating a pathway, trees, and shrubs.
