Fortnight in Japan
the Government has invited and paid for New Zealanders to be hosted in Aichi. While in Aichi, the delegates will take part in celebration meetings and discussions concerning the International Youth Year. The 14-day trip will also include visits to the science and technology fair, Expo 85, at Tsukuba in Tokyo, and the International Youth Village in Tokyo, as well as a
ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya, the capital of Aichi. Miss Baird and Mr Mulrooney were chosen for the trip by the New Zealand Japan Society of Canterbury. Both had been active in hosting and entertaining young people from Aichi on previous good-will visits to New Zealand, and in helping to promote international cooperation and friendship, said Mr J. Loftus, president of the society. Mr Mulrooney is a Red Cross Society of New Zealand representative on the Association of Canterbury Youth Groups. Miss Baird, with her family, has helped entertain Japanese visitors to Canterbury since 1978.
