More Japan flights soon
NZJN Tokyo Japan and New Zealand have agreed to more flights between Tokyo and Auckland. The Japanese Minister of Transport, Mr Tokuo Yamashita will arrive in New Zealand today to discuss fine points of the agreement with the New Zealand Transport Minister Mr Prebble. Long awaited, the agreement is expected to result in a huge increase in Japanese tourists to New Zealand and will also provide much needed space for horticul-tural-produce exporters. Agreement to increase capacity on the popular route was reached in bilateral civil aviation talks held between transport officials of both countries in New Zealand last month, according to the Japanese Transport Ministry. Japan Air Lines, which since September last year has wanted to use 8747 jumbos on its bi-weekly service to New Zealand instead of DClOs, is expected to introduce the 747 s in October or November. Air New Zealand will fly two 747 s a week on the route all the year round, beginning this November. A second jumbo was introduced two years ago, but only for the New Zealand summer. Mr Yamashita will be accompanied by the direc-tor-general of the International Tourism Bureau, Mr Toyoichiro Nakada, and Mr Shigenori Miyatake, deputy director of the bureau’s policy division. Tomorrow the Japanese delegation will hold talks with the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, Mr Prebble, and officials of Air New Zealand and the Shipping and Tourist corporations. — Copyright, N.Z.
